ANCA-WR and AYF Advocate for Armenian American Taxi Drivers

The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) and the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) are working with Armenian American taxi companies who were refused operational rights by a Santa Monica City Council Taskforce, through a recommendation which would allow the franchise of only five taxi companies to operate within the City.

AYF Pays Tribute to Murdered Karabakh Defenders at Navasartian Games

The Armenian Youth Federation paid tribute to the courage and dedication of Karabakh’s defense forces on Saturday, July 3 with a memorial event to honor the four Karabakh servicemen murdered last month during a late night attack by Azeri forces.

On June 18, only hours after the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in Saint Petersburg for peace talks to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azeri soldiers attacked a defense outpost in Karabakh’s Mardakert region, killing four Armenian soldiers. The international community’s failed to condemn Azerbaijan for the attack.

Volunteers Devote Time and Energy to Prepare AYF Camp

Beginning on July 5, more than 700 campers will converge onto AYF Camp Big Pines for the first of seven full-week summer sessions. Armenian youth between the ages of eight and seventeen will have the chance to make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, learn about their culture, and participate in a wide array of games and activities.

To prepare for the arrival of these young campers, members of the AYF teamed up with the Camp Board on June 25-27 for a special work weekend aimed at renovating and setting up the campground.

Pasadena Youth Organize Weekend Retreat at AYF Camp

A small but close-knit group of 40 made their way to AYF camp the weekend of May 21-23 for an annual retreat featuring educationals and fun activities. Organized by the Pasadena ‘Nigol Touman’ chapter of the AYF, the weekend was full of awesome games, delicious sandwiches, and informative educationals. With the youngest attendee being 6 years old, the oldest 47 and the majority under 16, the weekend was vibrant with energy and enthusiasm.

The Armenian Youth Federation’s Youth Corps Program celebrated its 15th anniversary on Saturday, May 22. The event, held at the Dimejian residence in Pasadena, brought together Youth Corps alumni, supporters and friends to share experiences, relive memories and celebrate the accomplishments of the program.

AYF ‘Artistic Uprising’ Showcases Young Armenian Talent

Some young people have a lot to say, others shy from the spotlight but share their emotions and thoughts through the printed word or on canvas. Whether they wanted to sing, recite, show their paintings or try their hand at humor, about 100 young people gathered on Saturday, May 8, to enjoy the AYF’s Artistic Uprising Open Mic Night. Organized for the fourth year by the AYF La Crescenta “Zartonk” chapter, Open Mic Night invited young people from throughout Southern California to share their talents.

Distinguished Experts Discuss Assimilation, Revival and Repatriation with Youth at Annual Seminar

Several dozen youth gathered at AYF Camp this past weekend for the Armenian Youth Federation’s annual Educational Seminar, where the issues of assimilation and repatriation were explored through lectures, discussions, debates, and other group activities. The seminar kicked off Friday night with Director Elizabeth Chouljian, ANCA’s Communications Director and an AYF alumna herself, presenting the opening remarks and asking the campers to introduce themselves individually. Chouldjian created a welcoming environment, insisting that everyone call her Ungerouhi Yeghso.
