AYF Participates in Monthly Educational Workshop
Los Angeles, CA - Armenian youth from all over Southern California gathered at the ANC-WR headquarters in Glendale, CA to participate in the ANC-WR monthly educational workshop. This month's workshop was presented by Glendale City Clerk, Ardashes Kassakhian. The workshop was comprised of various topics, such as the importance of Armenian involvement in their local communities and Armenian activism in the 2008 presidential race.
Organized By ANCA-WR "It's important for today's young Armenian-Americans to take advantage of the many opportunities to involve themselves in the American political and electoral process." said Ardashes Kassakhian, Glendale City Clerk. "With my presentation, I tried to impress upon the AYF membership that working with both American political parties and various community based organizations will provide the exposure to issues of concern to Armenian Americans in areas critical to the policy decision making processes." The attendees were exposed to a straightforward learning environment from an educated and experienced professional. They also participated in a round-table discussion to solidify the information they had just learned. The workshop ambiance fully encouraged the attendees to take a proactive role in their local communities, and to take a stronger interest in politics. "As Armenians, to further our cause, we have to be willing to step out of our comfort zones and get involved and work with organizations and people who are not directly associated with Armenians. Then, through that type of networking, people will always remember the work we did with them." stated Razmig Jierian, an activist of the AYF-WR. "The work we do now, will help us in our future." Founded in 1933, the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) has grown to become the largest and most influential Armenian American youth organization; with chapters throughout the United States and affiliated organizations around the world. Inspired by our past and motivated by the needs of the future, the AYF actively strives to advance the social, political, educational and cultural awareness of all Armenian youth.
