Little Armenia Beautification Project
Following the official designation of the Little Armenia district of Los Angeles in 2000, the AYF has taken upon itself to consistently show its gratitude and ensure that the area remain clean and presentable. Working in conjunction with Councilmember Eric Garcetti’s office, hundreds of volunteers have come together every year since 2003 to revitalize the streets of this densely populated district of East Hollywood.
Working hand in hand with residents and local community organizations, the AYF annually hits the streets of Little Armenia to remove thousands of pounds of trash from major streets, plant trees, remove graffiti, place garbage receptacles in the area and erect colorful light post banners celebrating the Armenian heritage of the neighborhood.
As an organization whose mission is to serve the community, the annual Beautification Project is meant to give back and engage not only the residents of Little Armenia, but the city of Los Angeles as well. It is the youth’s unique way of showing appreciation for having an area of Los Angeles named in honor of our community and taking ownership of our ‘home away from home.’
